Good Health Creates Better Community. . .

How are you protecting your family? These is the drive line to participates and encourage people for the cause initiated by Biotech Davao, it aims to increase awareness of the problem of antimicrobial resistance in health care settings, schools (public and private), communities, institutions, etc. and to create partnerships to prevent antimicrobial resistance to the community that prone to airborne diseases, dengue and malaria areas.

“Antimicrobial Resistance Campaign” initiated by the concern and was realized to respond the need of some communities in Davao, exposed in viruses and pathogen bacteria. Why it is instigated? For the reason that antibiotic resistance is a worldwide public concerns, that we all have to act in response. Pathogens are drug resistance is an emergent threat of today, it has the capacity to kill lives.

Barangay 32-D located at the downtown area of Davao, with a total number of 2,961 populations, it is divided into 7 Purok. It has one (1) Health Center, and five (5) Health Workers. The said Barangay has encountered Dengue cases and Common Cold Diseases. They wanted to have a seminar about health care and any preventive measures to answer the need of their constituents. But due to the lack of support from other local agencies and non government organizations, their program is not sustainable.

Last February 19, 2010. Barangay 32-D became a partner of Biotech Davao’s campaign. Disinfection activity in almost 170 number of household benefited the said proceed, under the Smart Prevention and Disease Control Program of Biotech Davao through misting in the Barangay. The Barangay identified the areas to be misted has the history of airborne diseases and dengue cases.

“Working together and together you can achieve something! And it is our gratification that our place was identified as partner and the first one to benefit Biotech Davao’s program.” Brgy. Captain Rolando “Antoy” Bantayan said.

The recipients of the misting activity was also elated and responded positively, their homes were chosen to benefit the program. One of the beneficiaries said “Nalipay ko na naapil mi sa disinfection kay mao ning pirmiro nga sanitation program nga amoang nadawa,t unta dili na ni maundang nga programa” (I am happy that my home was disinfected, this is the first sanitation program that we have received. I hope this will not be the end of the program) cited by Aling Lanie.

Everyone has the right to medical care, Biotech Davao’s campaign is still around; they are aiming to a “Disease-Free Davao”. Health issue is just around the corner, what are you waiting? be one of them!
