How are you protecting your family? These is the drive line to participates and encourage people for the cause initiated by Biotech Davao, it aims to increase awareness of the problem of antimicrobial resistance in health care settings, schools (public and private), communities, institutions, etc. and to create partnerships to prevent antimicrobial resistance to the community that prone to airborne diseases, dengue and malaria areas.

“Antimicrobial Resistance Campaign” initiated by the concern and was realized to respond the need of some communities in Davao, exposed in viruses and pathogen bacteria. Why it is instigated? For the reason that antibiotic resistance is a worldwide public concerns, that we all have to act in response. Pathogens are drug resistance is an emergent threat of today, it has the capacity to kill lives.

Barangay 32-D located at the downtown area of Davao, with a total number of 2,961 populations, it is divided into 7 Purok. It has one (1) Health Center, and five (5) Health Workers. The said Barangay has encountered Dengue cases and Common Cold Diseases. They wanted to have a seminar about health care and any preventive measures to answer the need of their constituents. But due to the lack of support from other local agencies and non government organizations, their program is not sustainable.

Last February 19, 2010. Barangay 32-D became a partner of Biotech Davao’s campaign. Disinfection activity in almost 170 number of household benefited the said proceed, under the Smart Prevention and Disease Control Program of Biotech Davao through misting in the Barangay. The Barangay identified the areas to be misted has the history of airborne diseases and dengue cases.

“Working together and together you can achieve something! And it is our gratification that our place was identified as partner and the first one to benefit Biotech Davao’s program.” Brgy. Captain Rolando “Antoy” Bantayan said.

The recipients of the misting activity was also elated and responded positively, their homes were chosen to benefit the program. One of the beneficiaries said “Nalipay ko na naapil mi sa disinfection kay mao ning pirmiro nga sanitation program nga amoang nadawa,t unta dili na ni maundang nga programa” (I am happy that my home was disinfected, this is the first sanitation program that we have received. I hope this will not be the end of the program) cited by Aling Lanie.

Everyone has the right to medical care, Biotech Davao’s campaign is still around; they are aiming to a “Disease-Free Davao”. via Health Protection Agency Welcomes Addition Of New Pneumococcal Vaccine To Childhood Immunisation Programme.

The case is a 21 year old female from the El Tanta District of Gharbia Governorate. She developed symptoms of fever and cough on 15 December 2009.

She was admitted to Tanta Fever Hospital where she received oseltamivir treatment on the same day. She is in a stable condition. Investigation revealed that the case had close contact with dead poultry and was involved in slaughtering sick birds.

The case was confirmed by the Egyptian Central Public Health Laboratories, a National Influenza Center of the WHO Global Influenza Surveillance Network (GISN).

Of the 90 laboratory confirmed cases of Avian influenza A(H5N1) reported in Egypt, 27 have been fatal.

Then I had a long talk with Dr Primas in Arizona. he met with school administrators about EnviroCaire and how it might help. They are inoculating kids as fast as they can but Doc rightly points out that the POLITICAL climate is one of mistrust of the Govt. and all they do. Many parents won’t allow the vaccination. The word from the schools is they have no problems from Flu, H1N1 or any other. Doc told them to keep our number. Hehe, he is having fun. He believes in the stuff and the methodology. We are combining efforts now to spread the belief.

Dear Parents,

Because of higher than normal absenteeism associated with flu(s), I wanted to make you aware of the following two temporary modifications to the regulations of Dare County Schools regarding make-up work and examination exemptions:

1. Exam exemptions:   For any student whose absences are due to flu-like symptoms, those absences will not count toward the total used to determine exam exemption status.  A doctor’s note or parent’s note will be sufficient to document the presence of flu.

1. Make-up work:  The normal grace period for submitting make-up work after returning to school is 3 days.  This deadline will be lifted to allow students as much time as necessary to complete assignments when returning from an illness, as long as the student makes continuous progress.

If you have questions regarding exam exemptions or make-up work, please call the school office.

I find this disappointing. I would love to work on MozziMort and not have any urgency in the work on EnviroCaire. Yet it seems that the urgency grows, not just because the flu is upon us but because of the ignorance of so many people. In the Year of our Lord 2009 I find it terrifying that only 52% of people surveyed want H1N1 Vaccine shots.

A new AP Poll finds that only 37% of Parents are very likely to have their children vaccinated. How could you, in good conscience, send your child to school, without protecting them? Children are more susceptible to this flu and complications. If nothing else, think about your child being infected and infecting others!

EnviroCaire is a great product, a needed methodology but I would be perfectly happy to not have it needed.

On Wednesday, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius appealed for widespread inoculation against H1N1, vouching unconditionally for the vaccine: “We know it’s safe and secure.”

There is a growing concern that many parents view H1N1 as no more serious than the regular seasonal flu. Au Contraire Pierre!

We will have to work on that in the next post. Even before I go play on the CDC site, I know enough to know its way different. The news reports, the CDC reports, sound like something out of the beginning of a bad Sci-Fi flick. The sort where everyone dies and a few folks strike out alone to build society anew..or kill zombies.

But these are CDC reports! This is not the media over hyping a story.

We have to work on this, not that we can change National Perceptions but maybe we can help a few parents make the decision to vaccinate.

I know one parent I would like to talk to, a parent with her own injection fears, although, I must say, a parent who has much less fear of needles for the kids than for herself.

Activity: Misting of Edwin Andrew Airbase Hospital and Zamboanga City Medical Center
Date: August 28 – 29, 2009

The misting was coupled with lab tests to prove the efficiency of the product as a disinfectant.  With the results supporting our talks, it was not hard for doctors to recommend to their superiors that it is indeed a need in their hospital especially with the spread of H1N1 virus.  During the misting of the area, cobwebs became more visible.  The sprayer mists hard to reach areas like the ceiling and very small corners and is capable of killing molds as well.

The Product: is available at ———– for one liter. Undiluted.  You dilute it with water, ratio is 1:19. one undiluted liter is actually  20 liters of solution making it very cost effective.

Each room was disinfected with EnviroCair using the ultra volume mist sprayer.  Misting of each room with an estimated area of less than 50 sqm takes about 3-5 minutes only. Misted more than ten rooms including the H1N1 control room and took more or less half a day to complete.  They had one case of H1N1 and we included his room in the disinfection.  Currently the patient is now in better shape, has been released from quarantine and will soon be discharged.

Other areas included in the misting are Admin offices and clinics, surgical ward and operating room.

through the cooperation of Ms. Emmy, head of the microbiology department.

Misting started at the Microbiology Department down to the Special Units, including treatment room, towards patient wards.
Other areas included were: HIV testing area, Tanya Ward (Cancer Ward), Pediatrics, Surgical Ward, Ward for Infectious Diseases, Blood Bank, Dialysis Center, Hispathology, Hematology, Clinical Microscopy, Treatment room, Nurse Stations of different Wards, Wards 6,7, & 8 , Medical ICU, Burn Unit, and selected doctor’s quarters and patient pathways.

Observed Advantages of the EnviroCair Sprayer:

1. It is cost efficient.  Cheaper than the commercially sold disinfectant by an estimation of 45%.
2. It is effective.  It was tested against Lysol, the most popular disinfectant.  Results proved that not only is Lysol more expensive but Lysol does not work nearly as well!  EnviroCair is capable of making an environment bacteria free.  In a controlled room, with a testing device, it was proven EnviroCair is capable of reaching 0 bacteria.
3. It is fast.  Usual note in both places. Admin states that thorough cleaning of  one room takes 2-3 days.  With EnviroCair, Usual cleaning coupled with misting results to a cleaner area with lesser time.  It is safe to go to area after 5 min compared to the usual 15-30min wait after spraying.
4. Odor Free.  No harsh odors that can harass nor irritate.

Observed Strategy of Distribution

It was observed that Biotech Philippines is first integrating into the medical field and is slowly trying to get doctors to recommend them.  With the premise that people and companies, in terms of health issues tend to believe if it is being endorsed by someone in the medical field.  The strategy is fast and clean with the use of these components: The tests and result, the misting activity, and the Medical Contact.  These three points establish the assurance of quality and efficiency every consumer needs.  If it is endorsed by someone in position of authority it will be easier for the product will be accepted.

Observation of Reactions and immediate result of the Misting Activity

1. It was observed that the activity was being looked forward to.  The hype that it created as they saw cobwebs falling down and areas of undisturbed dirt being sprayed out only strengthened the initial interest shown in the product.
2. The doctors are looking forward to using the product and found it inexpensive and cost efficient.
3. The patients and nurses felt more secure and clean after spraying.
4. There was a rise of requests to mist areas as the staff saw doctors supporting the spraying.
5. Positive reaction to the activity in general.
